Steve Rudolf (email) Steve has been with Producers, Inc. since 1988. A native of Philadelphia, he has over 40 years of experience in the arts as an actor, promoter, tour manager, marketing director and agent. He produced the first Broadway series ever presented in Tampa in the 70's, (tickets were $7.50), toured with numerous shows such as "Hair", "1776", "Equus" and "Grease" in the 80's, and served as Company Treasurer for a U.S. & Canadian tour with the Ice Capades. He was also stranded in Grand Rapids, Michigan at the Thunder Chicken Dinner Theatre while watching the bus drive away as his cast of "1776", all 23 of them, simultaneously stormed towards his hotel room. What a life it was on the road!! Not too different today, but he didn't have the toys, I-phones, computers, cell phones, no cyberspace world to immerse ourselves in. We had each other..and that was not always a pretty picture!! But often, he found them wonderful times! Unable to skate, or act, according to some critics, he founded Tampa's most successful and longest running resident professional theatre company, The Playmakers, which had a 9 year run, and became an Equity house!! He was Director of Marketing, Box Office Manager, Front of House Manager and continued to act, regardless of what the critics said, in productions ranging from "Sister Mary Ignatius Explains it All to You", to "The Actor's Nightmare" (his real autobiography). In between these many accomplishments he drove a cab..for a week..unsuccessfully and frightening, sold real estate, unsuccessfully, sold shoes..very unsuccessfully. His best in-between efforts went towards collecting unemployment compensation. After all, he was an "artist" making a statement with his craft and skills and with his get off the mat philosophy, still in tact today!! While working 75 hours a week and making $10,000 a year his father would often ask "When are you going to get a real job Steve"? But he did receive great support and of course great guilt from his Jewish parents. His father was pleased when he joined the agency, finally reaching his definition of a real job! Well he is gone now, and he misses him so, but he would still be asking "So why did you buy all the wrong stocks and go broke again!" As an agent his philosophy is quite simple; give quick and wonderful service and get to know your customers. Be sure and make 'em laugh, be real, honest and fair, and use the guilt he knows so much about on them!! He looks forward, as you read this,, and with much appreciation , to having the opportunity of working with you! (updated 11/13/2009 by Steve of course!) |
