Comedy writers and performers Rick Compton and Betsy Bennett were wondering what their next show might be when Rick spotted someone loading a walker into a car and suggested, “Maybe something on assisted living.” Betsy elbowed him and shot back, “Assisted Living: The Musical.” Six months later, the show was onstage—and audiences have been laughing ever since.
Assisted Living: The Musical® is a hilarious 85-minute musical comedy that takes audiences inside Pelican Roost, a very active retirement community where 70-something is the new 20-something…only with looser skin.
Through a parade of 18 wonderfully quirky characters, original songs, sketches and plenty of attitude, the residents of Pelican Roost sing, dance, revel, kvetch, celebrate and bloviate their way through later life. From a 93-year-old Cadillac driver to a very enthusiastic Wellness Center nurse, these characters aren’t slowing down—they’re living life in the moment and to the max.
Pelican Roost is a little like Woodstock with walkers…and much better bathrooms.
These 21st-century seniors aren’t sitting around watching the world go by. They’re partying like it’s 1969—with no work, no pregnancy scares and a full array of Medicare-subsidized pharmaceuticals. It’s the Boomer dream!
