RIVER CITY BRASS has been described as “most sensational” and “brings a different facet of the world of music to audiences. Programs include “Hollywood Meets Bollywood,” “Celtic Connections,” “Way Down Yonder in New Orleans,” “Christmas Brasstacular,” and much more.
On November 21, 1981, River City Brass performed under the baton of conductor Robert Bernat at the Carnegie Music Hall in Pittsburgh, during its inaugural concert. Among the performers during that first RCB concert were British musicians Robert Childs, a renowned euphonium performer with the Grimethorpe Colliery Band, and Arthur Taylor, a British brass band concert producer who served as the master of ceremonies for the RCB event.
Aside from their regional concert series, RIVER CITY BRASS performs dozens of concerts on tour each year for community arts series, corporate events and major music festivals.
Venues and hosts have seven programs to choose from, including “Brasstacular’ and ‘”Celtic Connections.” The band, under the direction of James Gourlay, also offers master classes and side-by-side programs to schools for a unique learning experience.
“The mission of River City Brass is to entertain, educate, and engage audiences of all ages by sharing the American musical culture in the Pittsburgh region, nationally, and internationally.”
