RIVER CITY BRASS brings the power, excitement and versatility of the brass band tradition to the concert stage with a distinctly American style. The ensemble combines brilliant musicianship, engaging programming and an unmistakably big brass sound.
Founded in Pittsburgh in 1981, River City Brass has grown from its regional roots into a nationally recognized ensemble, touring throughout the United States and internationally. In addition to its popular Pittsburgh-area concert series, RCB performs for performing arts centers, community concert series, festivals and special events.
Under the direction of internationally acclaimed conductor James Gourlay, River City Brass performs music that crosses generations and musical styles — from Broadway, Hollywood and jazz to Celtic favorites, popular classics, patriotic music and music from around the world. With imaginative programming and plenty of personality, RCB creates concerts designed to entertain audiences well beyond traditional brass band enthusiasts.
Presenters can choose from a variety of themed programs, including Hollywood Meets Bollywood, Celtic Connections, Way Down Yonder in New Orleans and the holiday favorite Christmas Brasstacular, along with additional programs that showcase the remarkable range of the ensemble.
River City Brass also offers master classes, educational programs and side-by-side experiences, giving students the opportunity to learn from and perform alongside professional musicians.
