Glenn Miller Orchestra

THE WORLD-FAMOUS GLENN MILLER ORCHESTRA

The Greatest Band of the Greatest Generation

“Moonlight Serenade,” “In the Mood,” “Chattanooga Choo Choo,” “Pennsylvania 6-5000,” “Tuxedo Junction,” “A String of Pearls,” “Little Brown Jug,” “At Last,” “(I’ve Got a Gal In) Kalamazoo” — few orchestras are identified with so many songs that have become part of the American musical landscape.

The World-Famous Glenn Miller Orchestra brings the unmistakable sound of one of the most celebrated big bands of all time to the stage, performing the music that defined an era and continues to thrill audiences around the world.

Glenn Miller formed his orchestra in 1938 and quickly created a sound unlike any other band of the period. His distinctive arrangements — with the clarinet carrying the melody over the saxophones — gave the orchestra an instantly recognizable musical signature. Following a breakthrough engagement at New York’s famed Glen Island Casino in 1939 and nationwide radio broadcasts, the Glenn Miller Orchestra became a sensation.

By 1940, the Glenn Miller Orchestra had achieved an extraordinary 31 Top 10 hits and eight No. 1 recordings in a single year. Songs including Moonlight Serenade, In the Mood, Tuxedo Junction, Pennsylvania 6-5000 and Chattanooga Choo Choo helped make Glenn Miller one of the defining musical figures of the Swing Era.

Miller’s remarkable career was cut short when his plane disappeared over the English Channel on December 15, 1944, while he was traveling from England to France during World War II. But the music — and the unmistakable Miller sound — never disappeared.

Following the enormous success of the 1954 motion picture The Glenn Miller Story, starring James Stewart and June Allyson, the Miller Estate authorized the formation of the present Glenn Miller Orchestra in 1956 in response to overwhelming public demand.

For seven decades, the World-Famous Glenn Miller Orchestra has carried that extraordinary musical legacy to audiences around the globe. Today, the orchestra continues its extensive touring schedule under the direction of Erik Stabnau, featuring vocalist Hanna Claire, bringing the excitement, romance and unmistakable swing of the Glenn Miller sound to a new generation.

“From the opening notes of ‘Moonlight Serenade’ to the irresistible swing of ‘In the Mood,’ The World-Famous Glenn Miller Orchestra brings one of America’s greatest musical legacies thrillingly to life.”
